Anne Frank, The Diary of a young Girl, by Anne Frank herself, focuses on a young Jewish-German girl, who lives a peaceful life before she is trapped by the grasp of the Nazis into hiding. She, her family and some close friends
are forced into hiding in a small annex. She and her family lived in fear for years until their fate was upon them. Her Diary serves as a reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. She recorded very vivid impressions of her experiences throughout her journey. Her family and her are cut off from the outside world, facing the challenges and obstacles of starvation, boredom and the in mind possibility of death that haunts them. Her story is unfortunately cut short.
Personally, at first I was unsure if this book was going to intrigue me or disappoint me. I had heard great things about this book from friends and close relatives, but as soon as some comical suspenseful imagery took place while building suspense. I was fully invested. The description, foreshadowing and perspective from that time is enjoyable, but also somber. For it poses me with an open mind to the point of view and fear that was hard to even fathom, but very real. When I read this book, the events that took place felt like a story, even though they were real events. I would feel suspense imagery and tone all at once throughout the whole book. Every thought has meaning that offers a different perspective in opinion and thinking. After I read this book, I was inspired to learn more about the Holocaust and its traumatic effects like in this book.
In my opinion, the way to look upon this book is with the open mind to view the perspectives and sympathize with the horrid conditions that the people had to go through during this period of time. This book doesn't require that much thought or effort to read, however the key to understanding it is to really put yourself in the character's shoes and imagine/visualize the events that took place.
