Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (2/5)

The Young Adult, Sci-Fi novel Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is set in a futuristic setting, where the characters have access to spaceships as well as access to other planets. The book is written with a different point of view of the main characters, which are mostly Tyler Jones and his crew, as well as Aurora O’Malley. Aurora is first introduced when Tyler Jones, the best student in Aurora Academy, goes for a stroll around the spaceship he and his fellow students are occupying. Aurora is held in a station, sleeping for two hundred years, which suddenly breaks, and Tyler saves her. Due to this mishap, Tyler Jones misses the chance to pick his group members for his crew, so he is stuck with his sister, Scarlett Jones, her best friend Cat, and other misfits of the Academy. Aurora reunites with Tyler’s new crew and finds out that she is a target of many other space crews. And, it is up to Aurora and the crew to find out who she really is before she loses herself to the people chasing her. I thought that this book was very generic. There were some shocking moments, and I did appreciate the fast-paced action in the book. But, this book has an element where it was very easy to guess what would happen next. So, there weren’t really surprises in this book. Although the action was fast-paced, it was pretty boring. Some ideas in the book were hard to follow, and some components during the action-filled parts were very strange. It was hard to read the whole book since there wasn’t anything special about this book. This book did not teach me anything either, so it really felt like I wasted my time reading this novel. I believe anyone could read several other books that had the same plot as this one. There are definitely better Sci-Fi books in the marker, so I suggest looking at many science fiction books and their reviews, as well as only reading a couple of chapters of the books you are deciding on so you do not waste your time expecting something better when reading the whole book.
