The book, “Black Out” by Robison Wells is mostly about the adventures of young adults who find they have superpowers. I know, not original. They get these superpowers from a virus. This has nothing to do with current events. The book was copyrighted in 2013. The virus explanation, by the way, was extremely vague and makes no sense. Anyway, the book switches between the perspectives of the main characters. And I really like that style of narration, in theory. In practice, this book does it terribly. It spends way too much time on one character, and not enough on other characters.
Moving on, the book’s plot can mostly be summarized with America in disarray, and some superhumans using their powers to form and act as a terrorist organization. They mostly spend their time destroying things. That's it. Some of these “terrorists” include two of the main characters (of four). I can’t tell if the “terrorist organization” has a just cause that hasn’t been revealed yet, or if it is simply evil. I never even learned the terrorist’s motive. Which, by the way, makes the “terrorists'' not actually terrorists. Terrorists by definition need to have a political motive. The author refuses to clarify anything about these terrorists in the entire book, and the whole thing is an excuse for plot. Not to mention, the plot has more holes than swiss cheese.
However, it has one redeeming factor. There are some good action scenes. I did enjoy that.
Overall, this book is a waste of paper and only has good action. Everything else was terrible. If somebody wanted to read this, I would tell them they would have more fun reading the nutrition labels at Walmart.
