Carrie by Stephen King (4/5)

Maximilian D.

The novel Carrie by Stephen King is a Psychological thriller that tells the tale of Carrie White as she experiences her supernatural powers through high school. It is a cautionary tale about how cruelty, repression, and fear can create real monsters. Stephen King is known for his beautifully written horror and thriller book and this one fits in perfectly to the cate-gory. Carrie is about a high school girl who uncovers her secret telekinetic abilities to read people's minds and move things. She is bullied at school and that is what causes a massive outburst of rage from Carrie. This book was very suspenseful, and King built tension throughout the book until the final pages. I enjoyed the amount of different perspectives there were to the book and how each person sees the situations differently. One matter that was left out was straight up, how did she get her powers or why was she born with them? I feel that left a gap in the story development and don’t get me wrong it's still an amazing book, but that would add to the character development overall. In relation to Blake Crouch’s story, Dark Matter, it has the same feeling of, what’s gonna happen next, and how much each step of the novel. I can relate to this book with the feeling of being in high school and how that can personally affect your mental health with a workload or even getting bullied in Carrie’s case. I think someone who enjoys an enticing read, would be encouraged to take a look at this book and read through it because it’s a bit slow but very much worth the time.
