Catching Fire (Hunger Games 2) By Suzanne Collins (5/5)

THE FOLLOWING DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE FIRST BOOK!!!!

The book Catching Fire is a continuation of the Hunger Games series, written by Suzanne Collins. The story follows Katniss Everdeen and her journey after the 74th Hunger Games. Throughout the book she tries to overcome her trauma and losses from the Games. In the beginning of the book, Katniss and Peeta are about to go on their “Victory Tour” which involves them riding to all twelve districts and then a party in the Capitol. While on the Tour, they experience the differences in each of the districts and see the effect that their defiance with the berries caused to the entire nation.

This is my FAVORITE book ever!!! This continuation does an amazing job elaborating the change in the characters after the 74th Hunger Games and expresses a clear evolution in character throughout both the book and the rest of the series. The second book does a nice job really defining the major relationships in Katniss’ life, especially with her mother, Prim, and Peeta. The dialogue and inner monologue are also amazing in how they allow the reader to imagine exactly what is happening while still allowing a change in the tone of the reader to deepen the meaning of each line. This sequel fantastically contains all of the action, adventure, and suspense that was in the previous story, while adding on to it in a way that is not repetitive, yet not too far off from the original plot line. If I had to say my favorite characteristics of the book, I would say it’d be the suspenseful cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, the amazing twists and turns that are revealed by the end of the book (while reading, remember the clock), and the pure emotion and chills expressed through every line. I also love the furthering of the love triangle in the sequel because, while I don’t like both sides, it gives the reader a fun little distraction from the chaos and disaster of the world within the book.

In conclusion, this book is a great choice for anyone looking for a dramatic, suspenseful, and chaotic story. If you have also already read the first book in the series, this book has the same amount of action, so I would HIGHLY recommend.
