As the author Rachel Renee Russell shares the experiences she had throughout her life in this book Dork Diaries 8: Tales From a Not-So-Happily Ever After, 2012 we see the ups and downs she had to go through. This book was a quick read for me, but included a large portion of Fantasy, and loved the Comedy that was so smoothly incorporated. When I finished the book I remember thinking how short and quick it was not because it was a short paged book, but because it was so relatable that I read it as if it were my Diary. I learned really through reading this book that all teenagers have their own story and you own your life, not others. Like how the main protagonist Nikki, Nikki Maxwell, tries to fit into high school, just like every stereotypical student. But we get a glimpse of this character's life and experiences that express her feelings along the way that really might connect with the readers. To briefly sum up what the book was about without spoiling it, I would say she is just your typical high school girl whose parents are roach exterminators, but she faces one main issue. Her arch-nemesis and some might say bully, Mackenzie. She is the girl who comes to school with a full face of makeup and shoes of her new designer handbag. As we can already infer things between them are not so hot. So one day Nikki was at the gym when she gets hit on the head with a ball, but remains unconscious as she believes she's teleported to a fantasy princess world...but with her rival and most hated person in the world, Mackenzie. I would say this book is definitely memorable in the sense that I could relate to it much better because I too just came into high school scared and worried and this book was in a way comforting. It was also entertaining because at some points it did get pretty personal, which everyone likes to be a little nosy at times. The author sponsors the book as a relatable girly book that has hints of comedy and fantasy, which I agree with but the girl part was kind of random. Overall I believe this book is a good read and would recommend it to only a select few. As stated above I related to it much better because I might be in the age range to understand it, which is why I give it a ⅘ stars. I personally would not like it in a year max or if I was in elementary school, but for those who are wanting a book about girls who fight and the hurricane between boys or just life in general, I would recommend this to you!
