Dracula by Bram Stoker (4.5/5)

Are you fascinated by blood? Then Dracula is perfect for you. Dracula by Bram Stoker is a dark fantasy novel that is told through diary entries and documents left by the many main characters. We start with a man named Jonathan Harker who travels to Transylvania to meet a man named Dracula who seeks property in England. Jonathan Harker encounters many strange things during his travels and finds Count Dracula to be quite strange. A succession of events leads to Jonathan Harker finding Dracula’s true identity. We are then introduced to other characters like Jonathan Harker’s fiance Wilhelmina Murray and her friend Lucy Westerna. Many different stories in the novel go from a woman talking to her best friend about getting proposed to a doctor experimenting on a homicidal psychopath. All the main characters go through weird and terrible situations that all connect to Dracula in the end. My favorite part of the novel for now is the first part where Jonathan Harker finds himself stuck in Dracula’s castle. I would give this novel a 4.5/5, it’s a fascinating read, but there are many words in it that are a bit hard to understand making the reading slower. It’s an intriguing novel, and I love the way the author uses diction and syntax to differentiate the main characters. Most of all I love how the story is told in documents, it makes the reader feel like a detective trying to solve a mystery. I recommend this book to all lovers of dark fantasy.I would not recommend this book to people who are sensitive to topics like suicide, gore, and death. It's a hard read because of the number of pages in the novel, but I am sure it will be worth it in the end. If you are ready to commit to the length of the book then be ready for a wonderful read.
