The book Driven From Within is a sports and business biography that tells the motivational story of one of the most famous athletes to ever live. Micheal Jeffery Jordan, known as the best player to ever touch a basketball, was born on February 17, 1963 in the busy town of Brooklyn, New York. He was one of 4 siblings and his parents worked diligently everyday so their children could succeed. As a young boy Jordan could play football and baseball but decided to focus on basketball, and that’s exactly what he did. You would think that being the player he grew up to be, Jordan must have been amazing in high school, but in reality he didn’t even make junior varsity his sophomore year at Emsley A. Laney High School. After many hardships and struggles he finally made it to the NBA as the 3rd overall pick in the 1984 draft. Jordan went on to win many titles and championships but before that, he had to face a menacing threat. The Detroit Pistons. Known for being the most aggressive and physical team in the league, the Pistons’ game plan was to put all the pressure on Jordan and be as physical as possible. This worked and carrying the weight of his team on his shoulder it was too much for Jordan and the Chicago Bulls ended up losing to the Pistons in the eastern conference final. All his hard work just to lose, but Jordan wasn’t a sore loser, instead he took the loss as motivation to get better and beat his harsh rivals. During the summer he worked with his trainer Tim Grover and put in the work everyday with no excuses to gain 15 pounds of muscle. Unlike many others in the league Instead of suffering another failure, Jordan would use all the built up anger and frustration to become stronger physically and mentally. The following season, Jordan with his new found confidence thoroughly dominated the then unbeatable Detroit Pistons, sweeping them in four games on the way to the franchise’s first NBA title and the first of six championships. In the end, all of Micheal Jordan’s hard work paid off and his story and character can teach everyone a valuable lesson. This book opened my eyes into what hard work and passion can do for you in life. Having played basketball all my life, it’s something I strive to get better at and Micheal Jordan serves as a motivation to achieve my goals. This inspiring book has taught me to take all my emotions and use it as fuel to help me speed across the road of basketball. For anyone debating on reading the book I would highly recommend it, the book isn’t too difficult of a read and Jordan’s action filled life will always keep you interested. He once said that limits, like fears, are often just an illusion and if you go by that, nothing can stop you.
