Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (5/5)

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, explore the life of Harry, a ten-year-old, who lives with his abusive aunt and uncle. But, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, he is visited by a half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid, who delivers him his acceptance letter into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is then revealed Harry's parents were killed by Lord Voldemort (the one who shall not be named ). Harry survives Voldemort and his curse, as it is deflected off Harry’s forehead (leaving a mark), and kills Voldemort. Harry attends Hogwarts and gets sorted into Gryffindor along with Ronald (Ron) Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry earns a spot on the Quidditch team as the seeker, because of his broomstick flying abilities. One day, Harry and Ron leave their room after being tricked by Draco Malfoy, Hermoine follows as well. Realizing Malfoy’s plot, the three hide in a corridor and discover a trapdoor guarded by a three-legged dog. They suspect that the item behind the trap door is the Sorcerer's Stone, which grants its holder immortality and the ability to turn anything into gold. Soon, Firenze (a forest centaur) warns Harry of Voldemort's plan of obtaining the stone to restore his body. When Dumbledore is lured away from the school, Harry, Ron, and Hermione go through the trapdoor in order to protect the stone. Harry is faced with challenges, while Ron and Hermione are left behind, It is then Harry encounters Professor Quirell who is controlled by Voldemort in hopes of obtaining the stone. Harry then has no option but to stand in front of the Mirror of Erised (which can display what you most desire). Seeing Harry’s lack of greed for the stone, he is able to obtain the stone. Professor Quirell tries to steal the stone from Harry, but he is burned as soon as he touches him, while Voldemort abandons him to die. It is later explained why Quirell dies upon contact and how Harry was able to survive Voldemort. Gryffindor wins the house cup, and Harry returns to his aunt and uncle until the next school year. Surprisingly, this was my first time reading Harry Potter. After constantly being told by friends and peers to at least give it a try, I finally picked up Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The book did not disappoint and lived up to the hype. It had a memorable storyline, specific descriptions regarding characters, and details relating to the story. This book is a must-read even if you are not interested in fiction, it makes you dive into the wizarding world, and teaches you lessons that can be best told through fantasy while keeping you constantly engaged with a terrific storyline. Advice to readers, though it might have a slow start or maybe you have a hard time imagining the story and the wizarding world. Keep persisting and reading, as eventually, you will start understanding the story and you would not be able to place your books down because of how interesting the story gets as you progress through the book. By the end, you will be left wanting more, and you will find yourself in the middle of this series (like me).
