I Am Legend by Richard Matheson (4/5)

I Am Legend follows the last man on earth, Robert Neville. The world has been swept by a plague, causing its population to be turned into deadly vampires within a few months. He now walks through the remnants of the old civilization hunting vampires during the day, and boarding himself up in his fortress of a house by night. This book is old, and somewhat dated, so some of the ideas and general things written haven’t aged well, but it’s a classic post-apocalyptic read. It’s set the stage for so many other stories of similar genres, but it still manages to be original and interesting in its plot. The beginning of the book can be a bit slow in my opinion, but by the half-way point, it picks up great, and leads into one of the best twists I’ve ever read. Overall, I can’t say it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read, but it’s definitely a good read, and invokes a lot of emotion, so I think a 4 is deserved.
