Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson (4/5)

If you ever wondered about stories of wrongly convicted victims on death row, Just Mercy is the book for you. The book Just Mercy is written by Bryan Stevenson. The book was published on October 21, 2014 and is still relevant today. This book is not a part of any series and is a book that needs little to no education on the topic before reading. Just Mercy, a non-fictional book, is written by and is about Bryan Stevenson who created the “Equal Justice Initiative” as a lawyer who visited death row. He discusses the many wrongly condemned inmates due to racism, being poor, and other unjustified reasons. He looked over each person's case in hopes of helping the wrongly convicted inmates. The stories of how each person got on death row were told in detail as well as the attempts of Mr. Stevenson helped them off death row. The results of his work can only be found by reading his book Just Mercy. The many horrific stories made me feel a sense of grief I have never felt in my life. The vivid details and use of imagery really made me emotional on many different levels. The protagonist Bryan Stevenson is someone I wholeheartedly give my respect to for attempting to free innocent people on death row. His innocence and big heart not only draws my attention, but also inspires me to be a better person in my everyday life. People who would enjoy this book would be individuals interested in criminal justice and specifically about people on death row. The book is written by a New York Times Bestselling Author and had me engaged from the moment I opened the book. It is not in a series and is a single book. I give the book 5 stars for individuals that enjoy criminal justice novels that are non-fiction. For the average reader I would give it 4 stars since it is not a topic most people enjoy, but is one of the best novels in its category.
