Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (4/5)

The Kite Runner is a novel about a boy named Amir who views and experiences his life in Afghanistan. The story details Amir’s fears and plans for his future along with his present experiences. Amir’s father, Baba, has a bit of a strict relationship with Amir. Amir has a few good experiences with his father that he doesn’t manage to keep going for very long. While growing up in Afghanistan, Amir became known to the religions in Afghanistan. The timing of the story takes place before the rule of the Taliban. During the story, Amir faces a lot of decisions to be made on how to make it along in his life in such a time of transition for his country. Amir’s best friend, Hassan, is very kind hearted and would do almost whatever Amir wanted. This often got Hassan into trouble but would never tell his father that Amir told him to do his actions.

The book is slow to start out in. It took me a while to really get into it, but I do believe that it’s a fantastic read.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone already checking it out. It provides insight into countries that you may not know a whole lot about and provides insight into the mind of someone going through a hard time in a third world country.
