Lore by Alexandra Bracken (4/5)

Lore by Alexandra Bracken is a fantasy book about Greek Mythology that focuses on good vs. evil. Lore and her friends (good) versus the hunters and entities trying to take apart humanity (evil). For the 200 pages that I read, the book was about a 17 year old girl named Lore who was part of a hunt for the original Greek Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology called the Agon. For one week each year, nine of the gods and goddesses that have wronged Zeus in the past are forced to turn into mortals and are stuck on Earth, able to die from anyone. Whoever kills them will then receive a part of their powers. Lore, realizing the power hungry people around her, leaves the Agon to live a “normal” life. One day she is greeted with one of the last surviving original goddesses, Athena. She then agrees to bind her fate to Athena in order to avenge her family that got killed because of the Agon. This book contains tons of imagery that shows the reader where the main character’s setting is. This helps the readers really know what it’s like to be in Lore’s shoes, what she feels, where she is, and how she pushes herself to continuously fight for her deceased family. Lore gives the reader a sense of passion the main character also feels when trying to avenge her family that eventually turns into saving the population.
