Once An Arafat Man is a non-fiction autobiography illustrating the intense and heavy war-like life of Tass Saada who changed immensely as a person over time. The story starts off in the Jordan River valley where he sees the city of Jericho. Over many years, he had built up hatred toward the opposing side and wanted to destroy whatever was hindering his organization's success. Being led by Yasser Affrat they won against their rivals and took over West Bank, chanting for their victories along the way. After we flashback to the past, where it all started and we get to see his family’s hardships during his childhood. During his childhood, he built up a severe amount of hatred for others and eventually got to where he joined the organization. Eventually, his fire for destruction declined and he as a person changes overall where we see the beginning man who shifted from extreme hostility to becoming an important role model for everyone. When I first read this book, I thought of this man as being an antagonist, he never liked anyone, he lashed out at people, and overall felt like a bully. But as I read on, I changed my perspective on the book from being not-so-good to really interesting. The story itself tells us about the damage of war and destruction. The war showed me how people were killed, their lives ruined, and many extreme hardships for miles on end. I agree with the author because those countries within wars should learn to make peace and help those in need, not kill them. Individuals around the world today still have to endure the effects of war and this impacted me to notice how the story teaches us to never let that happen again. Overall this applies to everyone because if everyone works together as a team, then they will flourish, but if they don’t, they will crumble and argue with each other. Just like how countries diving into chaos erupts conflict. Tass Saada symbolizes this change and he too then recognizes the pain and suffering those within wars have experienced. I believe overall, the story is decently good and offers a nice reading to whoever wants to buy the book. At the start of the book, I had mixed emotions, but the middle part and the end part were pretty nice to read. Creating an environment where hatred declines, I advise people in the future if they want to read this book to look at how the protagonist changes and the good importance of that transformation.
