Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales (4/5)

Only Mostly Devastated follows a teenage boy, Oliver (Ollie), and his difficult love life. When he finishes the summer with a short fling, he never expected to see him at school. He knew that he lived near where Ollie was moving but this was a surprise. He finds that his summer fling, Will Tavares, is a completely different person than Ollie thought he was. He is the class-clown, a bit of a jerk, and, most importantly, closeted. The book follows Ollie and Will’s conundrum with ups and downs throughout the pages.

Only Mostly Devastated was a wonderful book providing the awkwardness of young love. Not only does it follow this trope but it includes family drama, interests, and college among the main character, Ollie.

This was a book that would be categorized as one that “can’t be put down”. After reading many, many books, I have come to realize that this could be either good or bad. This one is, sadly, bad. The chapters lacked cliffhangers or plot twists nearing the end. Though not all chapters have to end with one, they should after a couple. The reason this is bad is that you don't want to keep reading Only Mostly Devastated. If you were to put the book down, you might not come back to it.
