Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (5/5)

Project Hail Mary is a science fiction novel written by Andy Weir. It is about science teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace, whose mission is to find a way to stop alien microorganisms from eating the sun. He wakes up from a coma after arriving at another star, but loses his memory. He has to figure out what his mission is from flashbacks he has. In this mission, he meets an alien whose star system has the same problem as Earth’s, and works with Ryland to find a solution. I really enjoyed this book, especially how most of the science in it is real and possible. The flashbacks are an interesting way to allow the main character to perform necessary tasks and give the reader information about his past without dumping too much information at once. The book has connections to the themes of isolation and discrimination, which were well handled and fit into the story. Overall, the book was a good read and I highly recommend it. My advice is to not be worried if you think you won’t understand the science part of the book, because the plot and characters are still enjoyable without it.
