SALT by Maurice Gee (4/5)

Ever wanted to read a book about a secret part of society that steals men and turns them into slaves? Want to hear about how a boy went to save his father from that secret part of society as no one has done so before successfully?

If you want to know what secret part of society I am talking about, This part is called Company. Company is in a deep salt cave where men are taken after they grow up, they are set to serve Company until they are old and are said to retire to a land with their wives and kids until they die.

The story begins with a man named Tarl, like every other man, being taken to the deep salt cave that is called Company. Like many of the other men taken there, Tarl is renamed to a slave name. In his case, he is now called DS936A, But Tarl still refuses to give up his freedom. Hari is a young boy with the determination to rescue his father from Company. Along his journey, he learns about the history of this Company. He also has a wolf companion going with him. Tealeaf, who was previously a servant of Pearl, tries to avoid a marriage with the powerful and ambitious Ottmar with the help of her owner. They and Hari eventually run into each other sometime in the story and continue their adventure together.

I thought the details of everything, including the story were interesting. I tend to enjoy stories that include someone trying to rescue another person from slavery. There are also two other books that complete a trilogy if you want to read all of them. They all are a part of the story.

To summarize, This book is one of the many books that exist with the theme of resilience and I think that because Hari was willing to risk crossing over to Company in order to get his father back and also because Tealeaf wanted to do whatever it took to avoid getting married to one of the most powerful entities on the planet.
