Two girls, two worlds, forced to share.
The Grass is Always Greener is the third in the Belles series by Jen Calonita, the series goes in chronological order so for context in this book, it is important to read the first two.
***Spoiler alert for Belles and Winter White by Jen Calonita***
The series starts off with Izzie, she lives in Harborside, which is considered the bad part of town, when all of a sudden her grandmother’s health starts to decline, and with no other guardian, Izzie is forced to move in with a distant relative. She meets Mira, who becomes her new sister, and the girls work out their dislike for each other in book one. Together in book two, they face the struggles of Cotilian, one of the biggest events of the year, while trying to fit in. Book three starts with a new surprise figure in Izzie’s life who may have some more information about Izzie’s mother who passed away years ago. With this new person in her life, comes new drama that Izzie and Mira face together while preparing for their sweet 16 and working through relationship drama.
I usually don’t pick up a romance or drama book, but I personally really enjoyed this book! It was a really nice beach read, not too challenging, but the writing style was really nice. Calonita paints a vivid enough picture for the reader to understand how things look overall by explaining in detail but she also allows room for the audience to visualize some things on their own. Also, the way she paces it makes it more suspenseful, pausing long enough to enjoy the scene but not staying too long to where it gets boring or repetitive. I also really enjoyed the characters, by having the contrast between the Harborside and Emerald Prep characters, there was more friction but it also showed how well people can get along regardless of where they are from.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! While it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, it was well written with fun characters. I would recommend this to someone who is looking for a fun, easy read that just makes you feel good.
