The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune (4/5)

The Cerulean Sea by T.J Klune, is a fantasy book with a mix of comedy and romance. It focuses on two different themes, throughout the story you see the alienation of your own home. Being afraid of the unknown, while on the other side of the book, being afraid of adventure, and escaping the way of life that you've lived for awhile lonely.

Linus Baker works for a governmental organization. He's trapped in his cubicle, lonely rainy world with just his neighbor and annoying neighbor. He's sent off to discover new things. After all the adventures he's forced to return to his cubicle of a non awarding job of 17 years.

The book made me smile and laugh at parts, it was an easy read with a lot of allusions. The book was very predictable and the plot was very subtle. The author's lessons are clearly conveyed through the writing. The characters didn't have development but were relatable. The morals of the book were fairly broad, and can be used in everyday life. Talking about being different from others, fitting into others expectations, and having more self love.

The book didn't change my point of view on life, however it was still enjoyable. I would recommend this book to others who want a delightful read. Though the book is about 400 pages long, it felt like 200. With some skimming, this book could be read fairly quickly. It's also good if you are in a reading slump and want to read a solo book.
