This book covers the Iranian nuclear weapons program and a young scientist in Iran’s attempt to shut it down. The scientist lives in Tehran and is working secretly on the nuclear program but he no longer believes the nuclear program and what he is doing is morally right and provides information to the CIA. A lot of his inspiration for this was his father who wanted to go against the Iran government but never had time. After receiving this info the Government is set on attacking Iran to end their nuclear weapons program. However, the director of the Iran division of the CIA, Harry Pappas, doesn’t want this to happen. His reason for this is because of when the U.S. attacked Iraq and failed and caused the death of his son. Because of this, Harry works in secret with his friend from the British SIS and the SIS task force called The Increment to try to shut down this program from the inside. They must stop the nuclear program peacefully and delay the U.S. government so that they can stop their program before the U.S. invades.
This book provided insight on a topic I hadn’t known much about before. It made me understand the situation of Iran and how it had developed over time. I had no idea there was an Iranian nuclear program and that the U.S. worked to stop it. I liked how all the characters had in depth pasts which influenced their current interactions. Harry’s actions especially where he committed treason to try to save lives because of his son was admirable. In addition, as they must message each other inconspicuously, seeing the perspective of the scientist and of Harry makes it more clear the motives of each character, making it more interesting. The language used in the book was diverse and made the book a better read.
As a whole, all the characters had well written backstories and interactions with others. The book was very intriguing and well written, but had nothing that truly made it exceptional or one of my top books of all time.
