The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch (4/5)

This book talks about the life lessons that computer science professor Randy Pausch talked about in a lecture called “The Last Lecture”. It was a final lecture that he wanted to use as a way to leave his last mark on the world, something that can help people and that his kids can look back on to learn about him and be proud about. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and he knew he wasn’t going to live long, so he wanted to think of a way to say goodbye and spread his knowledge. He wanted to do something his kids, who were very young when he was diagnosed, could use to see what he was like and learn from him. So, he did a lecture and it was a big success. This book has all the contents of the lecture. I was iffy about it at first, but as I read on it actually was pretty interesting. It has some really good reminders and lessons, although it may be a little more targeted to an older audience I think it still had some beneficial lessons that I could use. It can be read as a general reading book or as a book that you look to for advice or something. You can probably skip around and look for parts that you think are more interesting since it is like a book of different lessons. There was one lesson that I thought was really interesting, this quote really stood out in that chapter, “ ...a man who knew what he didn’t know, was perfectly willing to admit it, and didn’t want to leave until he understood. That’s heroic to me. “ (Pausch 45). This quote was really impactful to me since I never thought about it in that way, I realized that being eager to learn is a quality that can be very beneficial. Some of the stories and lessons in this book are truly educational and you will learn a lot about life if you read it!
