The Mental Game of Baseball: A guide to peak performance by H.A. Dorfman (4/5)

Danny O.

This was a great book to choose for my book love project because it not only was a quick easy read, it also helped elevate my mental health and get better at playing sports. This book covers many of the things you need to do to be a top player mentally and physically. The first important thing it covers is dedication. It says that if you really want something you have to set goals and work towards it. Not just saying you want something, but actually working towards something. It also has short stories in sections to demonstrate the aspect being talked about. A short story from the dedication part is when a player named Tom Seaver was about to pitch a game but it was postponed due to rain and he never got to pitch. He decided that when it was his day to pitch, he had to throw. He went and threw pitches outside only lit up by the parking lot lights. This was showing his dedication to the game and the next time he went out to throw he threw his second shutout of the season. If he didn’t go out and throw that day he may not have pitched as good the following day. Another important part of the book is when it covers confidence. It tells you how to examine and get over your fears without panicking. It also tells you to think of the possible outcomes and failures so you can be confident with the outcomes of whatever you are doing. A short story tied in with this part of the book is when a pitcher from the Mets threw a 4 hit shutout because he was confident and thought positively instead of negatively. I thought this book was really good and it helped me elevate my mental game for baseball which will eventually help me in the physical reality of the game. I think this book could really help anyone who plays baseball in the many mental aspects of the game. It covers many of the different parts in detail and I recommend reading all of them.
