This book starts off right where the first book, The Maze Runner, leaves off. The Gladers are finally enjoying some sleep and relieved that their nightmare is over. When they wake up is when they realize that their past nightmare was only just test number 1. Immediately we learn new things and get some answers, but not enough. The gladers meet some new people and their new trail is off. Their new goal is to race to the end of the Scorch, to find the cure of the flare. Which is a deadly disease that all of the children have but is not in full effect yet. They must race another group of gladers which are all girls to the end of the scorch.
This book was everything the first book was and more. It is very exciting and probably the best page turner I have read. Some parts are a little eerie to read right before bed but that just adds to the excitement factor.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and will continue to recommend this series to friends and peers. My only flaw for this book and why it is ⅘ is that it is pretty repetitive and there is a lot of plot armor for the main characters.
