They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (4/5)

They Both Die at the End, although this book took a while to spark interest, once the theme started to present itself I enjoyed it much more. I believe the theme is related mostly to identity. The book is about two people, Mateo and Rufus, who are given a call that they won't survive the day because the “Death Cast’’ is a part of their world. Finding and being each other's last friends means they got to learn a lot about each other in such a short amount of time. They reflect on things they wish they would have done and achieved in their short lives but still live the day to the fullest. Over the course of the 373 pages I grew to enjoy it more and more after each page, it really connects you to the characters and their realistic problems, it portrays how they are still just kids but are headed for this inevitable doom. I enjoyed how the author built up anticipation for the ending and how he switched between the characters so you are able to see from everyone’s point of view. One way it affected me would be how it conveys the message that life is too short to take for granted, overall I enjoyed this title and would definitely recommend it.
