Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict And Armen Keteyian (4/5)

As a nine-year-old, Tiger made a bold commitment to his father Earl: “I’m going to be professionally excellent” (Tiger Woods). Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods (born December 30, 1975) in Cypress, California is an American Professional Golfer on the PGA. Tiger started at a young age taking an interest in golf at 6 months, watching as his father hit golf balls into a net and imitating his swing from his high chair. He appeared on The Mike Douglas Show at age 2, putting with Bob Hope. He shot 48 for nine holes at age 3 and was featured in Golf Digest at age 5. After many high school national tourments and tournaments at Stanford University, Tiger Woods turned to be a professional on the PGA in 1996 at the age of 20. By the end of April 1997, he had won three PGA Tour events in addition to his first major, the 1997 Masters, which he won by 12 strokes in a record-breaking performance at Augusta National. Tiger has built an unprecedented competitive career. His achievements on the course consisted of 106 worldwide wins along with 15 major wins mirroring his success off the course as well as being named one of the best professionals on the PGA ever along with Jack Nickolas. Along with being sponsored by various companies like Nike and Bridgestone. Tiger is now 47 years old and after many injuries and incidents with his personal life is going to give it one last shot trying to end on a win in his career. Tiger would like to play with his son Charlie (14 years old) who is also a golf prodigy and then will retire and play in the PGA’s 50+ league until his retirement to watch Charlie Woods play on the PGA. This book was a great book for me learning more about the game i love and how it has evolved to wear it is today. It helped me see how hard being a professional is in any sport and how competitive and hard golf can be. It was one of my favorite books I have read but I can see how those who don't play or understand the basics of golf could get easily bored or confused bein the reason I gave this book a 4 rating instead of a 5. Woods single-handedly changed the public's perception of golf as he brought youth, style, and athleticism to the game of golf which was very unlike the game we had previously seen. Soon after his meteoric rise, kids all over the country were idolizing Tiger Woods, and more significantly, idolizing a golfer for the first time in their lives learning what golf is and bringing recognition to the sport. If you are into golf or want to get into golf I high recommend this book as a must-read learning about the logistics of golf along with the evolution to how it came to be the sport we watch today.
