Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (4/5)

In this futuristic setting, Scott Westerfeld creates a world where people are divided based upon their physical appearance. The story follows the teenage protagonist, Tally, as she realizes the real truth behind the society she lives in. However, the dire situations she is put through cause her to lie and betray those around her. As the story progresses Tally faces guilt as she tries to decide whether her friends or her desires are more important. Personally, I find the story to be captivating. The futuristic setting is a really complex but also not so unrealistic idea. Also from the start to the end of the book, you can see how Tally’s character development improves. Overall, Westerfeld’s story of a world where everyone is ugly until they’re not is a riveting one. If you’re into sci-fi then I would recommend you read this novel!
