WarCross by Marie Lu (4/5)

Warcross Is a book with Emika Chen as the main character. She is an 18 year old woman. She was informed about a man with a high bounty and decides to pursue him because of her financial struggles. She believes that if she is able to catch the man with the bounty, she can fully pay off her debt and have extra money to spare. Although she catches the man, a third party takes the bounty money and leaves Emika with nothing. The Warcross championship is a game that takes place in virtual reality, in which people can compete to ultimately win money. She meets a hacker under the name of Zero, and chooses him to be her target. Zero is an illegal gambler that has broken many of the rules in Warcross and has profited greatly from the competition. Emika soon realizes that in order to catch the villain Zero, she needs to join a team. After browsing around and searching for a place to fit in, she ends up teaming with someone named Hideo, another person aiming to win the championship.

Overall, I believe this book is a good read because it always keeps you on your toes. From the heartracing challenges Emika faces to the chases to find Zero, I always find myself unable to put the book down. I gave the book a 4 out of 5 stars because the timeline would often confuse me, and it would sometimes be difficult to differentiate the real world to virtual reality.

If you do intend to read Warcross, I recommend keeping time in mind and remembering that this took place in a virtual world and not the real one.
