1984 by George Orwell (4/5)

Winston Smith is an old man that lives in a society where e is not allowed to express any kind of rebellion. Even thinking bad thoughts about the Party will get you arrested. Everyone in his society is brainwashed into loving Big Brother, the supposed head of the Party. Winston writes down his thoughts in a diary, hiding them from everyone. He then starts breaking rules and tries to find out how to overthrow the Party. The rest of the book follows Winston and his journey to freedom. (I won’t spoil it… but it doesn’t end happily). The writing was very detailed and hard to understand at some times, but overall it kept me on the edge of my seat. I think it was a great read and would recommend it to anyone. There are some graphic and sexual scenes though, just a heads up. I think that if you are interested in a dystopian sci-fi novel, this is a great novel to choose from.
