A Big Little Life is a nonfiction memoir by Dean Koontz that showcases the experiences and personality Koontz saw with his first dog, a golden retriever named Trixie. The book starts when they adopted Trixie and ends a little after she passes away, highlighting spectacular and peculiar moments Koontz and his wife had with Trixie. It is beautifully written and takes you on an emotional roller coaster like no other. Trixie herself and Koontz’s writing and affection for her are reason enough to read this book, especially if you love dogs or pets. It perfectly captures the wonder and love one has with a pet of theirs, and is a lovely memorial for Trixie, being a very special dog. All in all, the book is a lovely rendition of a very extraordinary dog’s life, and I highly recommend reading it. It isn't too hard of a read, but I would say just prepare to love this dog and her people very much by the end.
