A Good Girls Guide to Murder (5/5)

A Good Girls Guide to Murder was written by Holly Jackson and was published in 2019. This book has become a #1 New York Times Bestseller within those years. This novel is a mystery crime book for young adults. The theme of this book is learning to view others' perspectives.  5 years ago a teenager named Andie Bell went unexpectedly missing one night after seeing her boyfriend, Sal Singh. The police ended up finding Sal's body a few days later and suspected him of committing suicide then later on blaming him for Andie's disappearance, and Andie's body was never found. Even though Sal was no longer alive, his family was still affected since the town had held a grudge against them for suspecting their son for the murder of Andie Bell. Then 5 years later a girl called Pippa Fitz-Amobi thought the whole case seemed strange since they had rested the case but never had found Andie's body. Pippa didn't believe someone like Sal could kill anyone and wanted to prove his innocence for a school project. In addition to that police had no actual evidence that Sal had indeed killed his girlfriend. She ends up trying to resolve the case with his older brother, Ravi Singh. Pippa tries her best to try and take and hear out Ravi's side of the story, “Because I don’t think your brother did it- and I'm going to try and prove it.” (Jackson p.5).  This shows that she is looking at others' perspectives rather than her own. Pippa ends up discovering more things than she thought she would and ends up getting led into more evidence to the point where she discovers a whole new case. This book for me kept me hooked for the whole book. Pippa saw something that didn't look right and made an effort to further explore it. At first, it was for a school project but by the end of it, it was for the family of Sal.  I never caught myself getting bored during certain chapters, which I often do for other books. An author who had also read this book, Natasha Preston described this book as “ Killer suspects, heart-pounding suspense and twists that keep you guessing.” Learning to view others' perspectives before listening to rumors is important because it helps us comprehend scenarios from different viewpoints. It encourages us to think about other beliefs, experiences, and points of view.
