A Separate Peace By John Knowles (4/5)

A Separate Peace by John Knowles is a book full of ups and downs with many challenges and grief along the path of Finny’s and Gene’s life. A Separate Peace is a pretty old book for it was published back in 1959 and the time period that it was written in was in the midst of World War II which plays a major role within the book. This book is a bit controversial due to it being a pretty old book so there are some comments within the book that are pretty excessive. This novel is a very eventful book in the 1st person perspective of Gene Forrester who basically lives in school and is really good friends with Finny. These two would go through many trials and tribulations in their lives such as pain, grief, and anger. Finny and Gene’s relationships would go from good to bad pretty fast. But after all that they had gone through it would take a turn for the worst for Gene as the novel ended it on a bad note. This novel was a pretty good book because as I read, I always knew where I was due to the immense amount of context that is used within the book to portray the setting they are in at all times. This book is pretty memorable because all of the bad and good events lead up to the main events that happen making it easier to memorize specific moments within the book. But there is one flaw about this book that may greatly affect it for you: this book is not a very friendly or inclusive book for it was made back during the mid-1900s. This book was very well constructed in my opinion and thoroughly enjoyed most of what I read within the novel. If you are interested in a book that coveys someone else's perspective back then and a book that is a rollercoaster of events throughout the whole book then I recommend this book. Finally, the reason why I had rated A Separate Peace as ⅘ stars is that it is a pretty good book during my time of reading this book was not my total favorite but I still enjoyed reading it.
