Allegiant by Veronica Roth (5/5)

Allegiant, published in late 2013 by Veronica Roth is the final book in the Divergent trilogy. A riveting fiction novel, Allegiant is a dual-perspective between main characters Tris and Tobias (also known as Four). Readers searching for an action-packed and page-turning young adult novel with a touch of romance sprinkled in will absolutely relish this book. Allegiant explores themes such as overpowering authorities controlling the lives of those beneath them and how quickly people can become corrupted. These themes are very similar to other dystopian novels such as The Hunger Games and Legend, making it the perfect read for enthusiasts of the aforementioned novels. By writing this book from a dual perspective between two lovers, Veronica Roth does an amazing job showing the thought processes of each character and how strong their affection is for each other. After entering Chicago, Tris, Tobias, and their friends must adapt to a new world that is completely unlike any that they have ever lived in. If this isn’t already enough, they are quickly sucked into a group called “The Allegiant” where they learn shocking secrets that make them increasingly wary of where they place their trust. I strongly believe that Allegiant was the perfect way to end the riveting and eye-opening Divergent series. With blood-chilling plot twists nobody could have seen coming, I genuinely felt like I was a part of Tris and Tobias’s adventure. Veronica Roth also does a great job highlighting how secrets can destroy everything meaningful to people. Unlike books like The Fifth Wave, this entire book kept me on the edge of my seat and there really wasn’t a single point in the book where I felt bored, showing how action-packed it really is. While this series may not reach the same level of perfection as The Hunger Games and Scythe series, it definitely comes close. To readers who have read the previous two books in the series and are having doubts about whether they want to read yet another book, I strongly recommend that you do. This book had one of the most emotional and shocking endings I have ever seen and I believe other readers will also think the same. In summary, Allegiant is a stunning must-read for all readers, especially those searching for a highly entertaining young adult novel that will keep you up all night.
