Animal Farm by George Orwell (4/5)

Animal Farm is an extremely popular and revolutionary novel written by the world class author George Orwell; he is also notably known for 1984. The characters in Animal Farm backdrop the true intentions of George Orwell, but these farm animals are not just farm animals. This farm is a place where its animals overthrow their human oppressors, hoping for that goal of a utopian government held by justice and equality for all barn animals big and small. The book opens up with many introductions, the most notable being “Old Major” a boar who hopes to finally overthrow their tyrannical human oppressors, with aspirations to establish him and his fellow animals as the rulers of the farm. With the help of the wise boar all of the animal’s effort comes with success, and as revolution looks bright and near. However, the pigs struck with a sense of power begin to stray away from the original ideals of the boar. With this power they shower themselves with opportunities swaying the equality that was once fought for. In the end the pigs ended up repeating the cycle that the humans had started. The utopia that once was with the animals can be taken away in the blink of an eye, Orwell intended this to be how things were supposed to plan out, similarly to how he knows this connects to the world us humans live in today. The humans being the higher beings we experience today, that being presidents, rulers, and even the rich. On the other hand the animals being us civilians, as we humans yearn for equality there are others who want this power. The pigs are the humans who promise equality but do not bring us this desired outcome. Initially I had very mixed thoughts about this book, with a very slow start and an honestly slow finish, but it's not the words that matter, it's the content. This novel helped bring new light onto the world that I live in currently, really stunning my perception. I believe that this book is a must read, whether you love or hate books. This book will open up a new perspective in life that you have not noticed in the past before. Although this book is meant to be looked at on a large scale, it can also be seen on smaller scales today. In the end I do believe that this book is amazing, and to not overlook any details Orwell snuck in.
