Before the Coffee gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (2/5)

This book is a very slow burn but once it gets going it gets interesting. Before The Coffee Gets Cold is about a cafe that you can time travel in. The rules are simple: you can only meet people who have been to this coffee shop, you can not change the present, you must wait for the woman who is always in her seat to move, you can't change seats, and your time starts when your coffee is poured and is finished once the coffee gets cold. I found it really frustrating that each story they went through the rules of the cafe start to finish as if the reader didn't just go through all that 50 pages ago. I really did not enjoy the lack of chapters as it made it hard for me to find a place to comfortably stop. Something that I did enjoy is the description of the cafe. Kawagachi skillfully managed to make the cafe seem like the most cosy place to be while simultaneously having it sound like a prison. My reaction to this book was mildly disappointed. I was told that this book was amazing, and that it would change my view on my relationships. I was lied to. I would recommend this book to people who would like a book that they really have to dissect to understand, people who like time traveling, and for reading levels 8th grade and above.
