Blended by Sharon Draper (5/5)

This book is about Isabella Badia Thornton, who has divorced parents, and where she embarks on the wild adventures of constantly switching between her mom’s and her dad’s house. Izzy has many struggles with her sense of identity with her mom being white and her dad being black, this struggle soon deeps when she faces the harsh reality of racial insensitivity, racial profiling, and police brutality. That's not the only problem with her parents both of them have found new partners. With this new expansion of her family, she finds it hard to accept the new members like, her new stepmom and his son who is four years older than her, and her new stepdad. Even with all of these things swirling around in this 11-year-old’ s head she still finds time to master he passion which is playing the piano and of course, being twelve. I thought this was a very good read because it very well captures how people with split homes feel about their everyday life. It also catches the feeling of how racism is inflicted even when you're very young. A piece of advice I have for future readings of this book is to take your time and read it, I finished it very fast because it was a short read for me.
