The main character of the book, Saba, encounters many challenges during her quest to find her brother. Saba and her family lived in Silverlake which is similar to a desert wasteland. The family consisting of Saba, her twin brother Lugh, her younger sister, Emmi, and her father are struggling to live in the harsh conditions. Saba looks up to and idolizes Lugh, seeing him as kind and strong. One day, mysterious men dressed in cloaks, who are classified as the Tonton, murder Saba’s father and abduct her twin Lugh. Furious and heartbroken from Lugh’s kidnapping, Saba vows that she will return him. Saba’s sister emphasizes that she should come along as well when Saba resents the idea. The duo start their journey in the desert wastelands enduring harsh and desperate conditions. Along their quest they are captured and taken to Hopetown, which is a rural city run by a cruel leader, Vicar Pinch. In Hopetown, Saba is forced to become a “Red Hot” cage fighter, where she has to fight others in an arena. She meets a smart fighter named Jack, and a women fighting group called the Free Hawks. Saba gains the status and title as the “Angel of Death” for her strong and ruthless fighting skills. With the help of her new friends, she starts a rebellion and is successfully able to escape Hopetown. Saba then learns that Lugh was taken to Freedom Fields to be used for a ritual. She and her friends then hurry to Freedom Fields encountering many obstacles and problems along the way. Once she arrives, Saba and her allies attack the Tonton who took Lugh, and ends up killing their leader who is Vicar Pinch, freeing Lugh and the others kidnapped along the way. My reaction to the book was that it is unique, special, and has an interesting storyline. The way that the main character has to save their loved one while being trained to fight is outstanding. The book has a great start and gets more interesting the more you read it. The characters' traits add more character to the novel which makes it more interesting.
To conclude, the book is exceptional and interesting as the unique storyline and the characters add more personality to the book. The many fights and conflicts Saba has to go through is fascinating. Some advice I would offer future readers is that reading books you find interesting is good as it allows you to be introduced to new stories and help improve your vocabulary along the way.
