This book was okay. When I was younger I thoroughly enjoyed the movie Narnia, so I thought I would give the book a shot as well. The book begins with a young girl Lucy, who enters a wardrobe not knowing that it is actually a portal to a mythical land. Her brother Edmund also passes through the wardrobe where he meets the so-called ruler of this world, the White Witch who influences him to work alongside her because of her promise to make him a king. Later, Susan and Peter who are the siblings of Edmund and Lucy also proceed into the fantasyland. As they explore they meet a beaver who teaches them about Aslan, the real ruler of Narnia. Soon after, Edmund betrays them to the White Witch where he quickly learns about her ulterior motive to kill him and Aslan. Luckily, Edmund is saved due to Aslan’s decision to sacrifice himself but is revived because of the magic coming from the dawn before time that the White Witch is unbeknownst to. Towards the end of the book, there is a major battle between the many creatures of Narnia including Aslan and the White Witch. The battle includes many casualties, one of them being the Witch. The book ended with the four siblings becoming the new rulers of Narnia. I noticed many literary devices in the book, but most commonly, similes. I also picked up on the frequent use of parentheses. Often, the narrator of the book used them to further spell out a situation. I found this annoying because of the obvious explanations that took me out of what was actually happening. That being said, I did like that the book picked up quickly at the start because I have a low attention span so sometimes it's hard for me to get into books. Sadly, it died down and got quite boring for a good majority of the book. Then, came the climax, which I found interesting. The ending was a little odd and not that great. Overall, this was not that great of a book and I wouldn't read it again. If you enjoy fantasy books you may like this book. I suggest you read this book if you want a quick read because it is short and intriguing enough to get you through it fast.
