Butter by Erin Jade Lange (5/5)

The final meal, an occurrence not thought of by most, but to Butter, it was life or death. The 16-year-old nicknamed Butter attempts to live an ordinary high school life but one factor holds him back from being a “normal” kid, he weighs 423 pounds. He occupies his time by playing his saxophone, and although extremely talented he refuses to perform in front of a crowd. Coming from the depths of the school Butters’ “rise” to fame came thanks to his new website “The Last Meal”. Once his school discovered his website and its true meanings Butter had an instant rise in popularity. Throughout the book, Butters's change can be seen, he slowly starts to lose his interest in what truly matters and slowly focuses more and more on his “friends”. As we get closer to his last meal Butter becomes more anxious, we then get to New Year's Eve, his final meal. Butter at this point has reached his peak popularity and is at one of the biggest parties around, but at the end of the night, his “friends” show their true colors, ultimately feeding into his downfall. Lange was able to keep me captivated throughout the whole book. The multiple plot twists and love interests made the book interesting. While the approaching demise of Butter left me intrigued till the end of the book. Overall this was a really good book I rate it a 5/5 and a beach read, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in darker fiction novels.
