Stephanie Garber’s Caraval is an adventure fantasy that will take you away from reality. Caraval is a fantasy series that was published in September of 2016. The book is about these sisters, Scarlett and Donatella (Tella) who undergo abuse by their father at the beginning of the story. Suddenly, they get these letters from the Caraval master they used to write to as kids about playing his game. Scarlet wants to stay and marry her fiance, but Tella wants to leave and adventure Caraval. In the end Tella kidnapped her sister with a sailor they met (Julian) and once they got there they lost Tella and went on a hunt to find her and get back to the aisle. All and all, the book was amazing. The author smoothly led the story into a great ending. Although there were some blurry parts of the story, Garber focused on the main plot and kept it there. She also used so much imagery in the book it feels like you are actually in the colorful world of Caraval. Even though the main plot of the story was the adventure in Caraval and Scarlett trying to find her sister, the author smoothly developed a romance between the main and side characters. The best thing about it was the unexpected twist at the end of the story. Furthermore, I would 10/10 recommend reading this. It’s a book definitely for audiences who love the mystery and adventure to be unlocked throughout the read.
