For my book review, I decided to read a fiction book called Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins that was published in 2009. I think the main theme of the book is to make the best of hard situations you are given. This sequel to the book The Hunger Games, the main character, Katniss Everdeen, and her ally Peeta Mellark are reaped for the second time, to participate in the 75th hunger games. This event involves one male and female tribute representing each district, in a last one standing kind of competition. Every twenty-five years, there is what's called a Quarter Quell, which has an even more unexpected twist than normal games. These special games were made to reinforce the Capitol’s plan to show that they have more power over the districts. The 75th hunger games’ special rule included that past winners of the hunger games from each district would be reaped and fight against each other. Since district twelve only had one female Victor who was still living, Katniss is forced to participate. Peeta, who has fallen in love with Katniss, volunteers in order to protect Katniss throughout the games. As the two go through many challenges throughout the games, they both discover their deep love for each other, and make the most of every moment they have together. This book has become one of my favorites, I have read since it is both action packed, and has a romantic aspect to it. I think the theme the author displays of making the most of bad situations is uplifting since it encourages readers to always be positive. Many other authors' writings have similar messages such as A Night Divided which also involves a character fighting for her life, who still managed to have fun with her brother. Catching Fire has taught me to always stay positive in tough situations, since giving up or having a bad attitude will only make things worse and less enjoyable. Over all, this book had a great storyline as well as a positive message, encouraging readers to make the most of everything, even when times get tough.
