Cinder: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (5/5)

Imagine this: The world that we are currently living in is nothing compared to the possibilities of the futuristic world ahead of us. Our current present will soon evolve into the past, and become something that we can ultimately build off of and make new choices for new developments of how society will function. This will affect how these traits would in the end benefit or risk the qualities and well-being of mankind. But what if this idea were further extended to the time after the Fourth World War? And better yet, take on a twist with Disney-themed elements.

Cinder: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer is not your average fairytale. It implements the take on a futuristic remake of Cinderella, who is represented through the main character, Linh Cinder.

A 16-year-old girl, Cinder is mainly a half-human and half-cyborg who lives in New Beijing, a highly chaotic city. She is working, and known as the best, mechanic, who is made to feel like the “odd-on-out” within society, or at least is told and reminded of this by her stepmother, stepsister, and everyone else who finds her merely a walking piece of junk. She meets the prince of New Beijing, Prince Kai, one busy morning, and is enhanced by that one day, from then on, discovers and unlocks more mysteries to her blurred and buried past of before she was a cyborg and what her true fate in life is.

I found this book to be very creative in how it is not only a Cinderella-inspired book, but it has its own take on its own plot, which makes it very exciting and something to look forward to while also being a plot that many people are most familiar with.  It also made me think of the future of society and what adjustments and advancements will be formulated over time. The usage of each character and how their roles contribute to the story greatly shape the adventure and fluidity of the story. Throughout the whole book, I found that I really loved the way that the author manipulates words to enhance the reading experience.

Furthermore, Marissa Meyer’s Cinder: The Lunar Chronicles is a very exciting creation that is a fun way to pick up on a unique and adventuresome storyline with characters that you will find to have a developed connection with.
