Contest by Matthew Reilly(4/5)

This book Contest by Matthew Reilly is a great book for a fun beach read or just a fun young-adult book. Contest is about someone named Dr. Stephen swain who found himself locked in the after-hours darkness of the New York library. He has been entombed in the historic sanctuary for a reason he has been chosen for a night of fun and games. With six others they must travel room by room floor by floor with an explosive set to detonate. The terms of this game are simple, seven have entered and only one will leave the night alive. During this book, Swain must now outwit and navigate through this labyrinth alone against his mysterious opponents without knowing their next move. He must outlast the unimaginable dangers that await him throughout this maze of death. Against all odds, Swain has started the Contest and should he win the most unfathomable terror lies at the end of the night revealing the very reason he has been brought to this game. This book is a very interesting book, making you itch to keep reading and keeping you on your toes around every trap, danger, and corner you might encounter. There are many instances in this novel where it seems to intertwine with my own life. The Contest almost makes me think of a contest in life and how you have to fight your way to be the best in terms of sports or academics or really in our everyday lives. It makes me think of how there are risks and dangers in our everyday lives and sometimes you have to take a leap of faith. That leap to overcome that obstacle or fear opens a whole other lane for opportunities for you to accomplish in your lifetime. This novel was a little slow to get started, that is really the only reason I gave it a four instead of a five. But once it started, it was a roller coaster around every corner, making me want to read more and more to see what danger Swain encounters next. Overall was a great book to read when I was on the go or had a little extra free time and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a deep, detailed, and thrilling book.
