Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (4/5)

This novel takes place through the 60s-70s and follows an upcoming rock band “The Six” and a young aspiring singer named Daisy Jones. Jenkins has written this book in an interview-like format which shows the different perspectives of the characters. The characters being interviewed are looking back at their careers and lives during and before the time of the band. Almost like a reunion special all these years later after the fame. Throughout the book, we see how the characters manage their fame while growing into an adult, dealing with addiction, and problems dealing with love on the road. Jenkins has well crafted the characters in a way where we feel like we truly know them. Jenkins however keeps it honest and makes it easy to dislike one character over the other. With this in mind don’t go into the book expecting an overdramatic and exciting ending. Jenkins has well-blended love and romance, with the real world realities and shows and teaches the readers how things don’t always go as planned. This book was an exciting read. Jenkins did an incredible job of making it seem as if you are a part of the band. However, it did feel slow at some points, the ending felt rushed and less detailed compared to the rest of the book. Nonetheless, this was a great book. Compared to other books I’ve read this was a well-balanced book that didn’t feel unnatural or exaggerated. Even if you don’t like reading everyone would find something to love about Daisy Jones and The Six.
