The book Dark Matter by Blake Crouch is a fiction and Sci-Fi story about a man named Jason Dessen and an incredible invention known as “The Box.” This book explores many themes such as greed, jealousy, and identity. As Jason Dessen is suddenly kidnapped by a strange man, he finds himself in a new reality where everything is different. He endures many challenges and hardships and eventually makes his way back home, but something isn’t right. The world he thought was his own, is now infected by a myriad of Jasons, all trying to get back to their original life. This book is comprised of many plot twists and moments filled with suspense, keeping readers on their toes. Its deep dive into the multiverse and the actions and greed of humans provides for an intriguing read that can be enjoyed by nonfiction and fiction lovers. However, some parts of the book have pretty slow pacing, and the book is not very relatable, making some parts seem a bit distant or far-fetched. Compared to a book like Harry Potter, this book lacks the ability to create a loving and relatable main character, providing an emotional connection with the reader. Many are in the same boat as Harry Potter, being confined to certain boundaries because of their parents or guardians strict rules, and being special is what many people would like to be, making Harry an incredible main character. On the other hand, Jason is not somebody that you could relate to, making the book seem more like words on a piece of paper, rather than being immersed in a whole new world. Minus these negatives, this book helped me to realize and understand that everyday is precious, and a life-changing event can happen within a very short period of time. As Jason develops through the story, it demonstrates how we can stay strong and persevere through hardships that come our way. I strongly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a medium sized book, or around 350 pages, that dives deep into science fiction, and the many possibilities that are plausible with ideas of the multiverse. This book was a roller coaster. The ideas of the multiverse created a fun and intriguing read that made me never want to put the book down. The ending to the book could have been a bit smoother, however. If anyone wants to try this book, I recommend reading it slowly and processing the information on some of the parts involving the box and how they were able to travel through the multiverse as it greatly impacts the story.
