Daughter of the Pirate King (5/5)

Daughter of the Pirate King written by Tricia Levenseller is a unique and interesting pirate fantasy book, which appears to be inspired by the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean. The story primarily takes place on the Nightfarer, an enemy ship of our main character, Alosa. The book starts off with Alosa being captured on purpose to try and search for clues on an enemy ship. What is she searching for? Her father has sent her on a quest to find an ancient map, which possibly leads to the treasure of a lifetime. All is going well until she meets Riden, the ship's first mate. Riden is in charge of guarding Alosa's cell and questioning her about what she is really up to on the Nightfarer. As Alosa spends more time on the ship as a prisoner, you meet a ton of silly, interesting, well thought out characters. (and a bit creepy at times…) Primarily, as Alosa and Riden spend more time together, they figure out things about each other and find out secrets about themselves. Overall, Daughter of the Pirate King is one of my favorite books I have read in a while. In fact, I finished the whole thing in one sitting. This book offers spicy romance, a fast paced plot, and interesting characters all featured in a pirate ship setting. As the book progresses, you travel through quaint towns and dangerous enemy pirate ships. I feel like this book has something for everyone that they can enjoy. The writing style is unique and funny, and easy to understand with great jokes and descriptive detail to keep you interested in the book throughout the whole read. The main character is a strong, smart, and witty female protagonist. With her crew being mainly comprised of women, this book has a great representation of strong female characters. To sum things up, I totally recommend Daughter of the Pirate King. With its well thought out and memorable characters, interesting plot and tension, this is wholeheartedly a book I recommend to enjoyers of adventure books, romance, and a hint of comedy. And important of all: pirates!
