Divergent By Veronica Roth (4/5)

Divergent is a dystopian story set in the distant future. It is about a society segregated into different assigned factions. These factions include Dauntless, Candor, Abnegations, Amity, and Erudite. Beatrice’s family is in the clan Abnegation and although she likes Abnegation, she has a strong aspiration to join Dauntless. The Dauntless clan values Bravery in their members. After Beatrice goes in for an aptitude test, she gets a result known as Divergent. This means that she is suitable for multiple factions. Beatrice panically chooses Dauntless as her new faction. This is where she meets her future friends Christina, Al, and Will. Beatrice and her fellow comrades go through a series of stages to prove that they are strong enough for the Dauntless clan. Suddenly, Beatrice discovers some corruptness in the governments where the Erudite tries to overthrow the Abnegation. People that aren’t Divergent end up getting brainwashed and it's Beatrice's job to save the day. I thought the book was pleasant, but nothing too special. I like how they portrayed the Sci Fi theme of the book a lot. This book is similar to the previous one I read, WANT. It is similar in the way that the Government is corrupt and the main character tries to fix it. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.
