El Deafo by Cece Bell (5/5)

Cece Bell is the main character in this graphic novel, called El Deafo. It is somewhat based on her life and experiences growing up deaf. This book shows the reader her friendships and relationships throughout her school life. She uses a device called the Phonic Ear, which makes her feel different from all the other kids. Although, as the story continues, Cece starts to think of it as something cool. It allows her to hear better than her classmates. El Deafo is the name that she gives herself when she starts viewing herself as a superhero.

I like this book because it is funny, colorful, and tells a good story. I think people will overlook El Deafo since it happens to be a graphic novel. I would say it is worth a read anyway. El Deafo does a good job highlighting the emotions of Cece and how she feels towards certain people. The characters seem real, and I think anyone could relate to them in some shape or form.

If you happen to be an avid reader, this book will most likely be a quick read for you. El Deafo is great for people who get bored easily and want a break from analyzing books with long words or figurative language. I would recommend this book.
