An egg, powerful magic, and a dictator are all connected to the life of a young boy living in an unfamiliar land. Eragon, by Christopher Paolini, is a New York Times Bestseller, weaving a tale of magic and mystery throughout the land of Algaesia. This book is the first of a quartet series. This series starter may resonate with fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, incorporating many of the same fantasy elements such as dwarves, elves, and magic. This book narrates the story of a young boy named Eragon and his discovery of a dragon egg, a species that has not been seen in his land of Algaesia in several hundred years. In the past, dragon riders were abundant throughout this foreign land, helping the citizens survive and thrive. However, they were hunted to extinction by a corrupted dragon rider, Galbotrix who proceeded to take over the land and establish a dictatorship. Galbortrix will stop at nothing to seize Eragon and his newfound dragon, leading him on a dauntless adventure throughout all of Algaesia. During his travels, he meets an older man named Brom, and a young lad named Murtagh who become his companions on his journey. This story is really entertaining, and readers will be eager to turn to the next page. It has excellent character development and is well-paced. Christopher Paolini's bright words vividly convey the story's originality. It takes on the subject of authoritarian control and its impact across an entire country. It sets the stage for the subsequent volumes in this series, which will elaborate on this story. Overall, this is one of my favorites, and its remarkable and well-written plot will captivate readers. I highly recommend reading this book since it opens the door to the remainder of the fantastic series.
