Fablehaven by Brandon Mull (4/5)

This book starts with two children named Kendra and Seth being dropped off at their mysterious grandparents’ house because they were not invited on vacation with their parents and other grandparents. When they get there, their grandmother is not there, or so they think The only rules Kendra and Seth had were to not leave the yard unsupervised, not to go into the barn, and no electronics. Since they had no electronics they found other things to do Kendra decided to try and solve the puzzle their grandparents gave them. Seth however decided to break the rules and explore beyond the yard without supervision. Eventually, Kendra solves the puzzle and drinks magical milk along with Seth and they learn that this place is full of magical creatures but the yard is the only safe place. Next on the summer solstice, a time when magical creatures can go into the yard but not the house unless let in, they were told to not open the windows or door at any cost. Then Seth opens a window and magical creatures go into the house and destroy it. They kidnap Grandpa Sorenson and Lena (the housekeeper/helper) and turn Dale into a stone statue. Then they turn Grandma from a chicken into a human and go to save Grandpa and everyone else. Then everyone except Kendra gets captured and Kendra goes to the Fairy Queen’s shrine and asks for help she receives the help and saves Fablehaven and becomes the first documented fairykind.

After reading this book I wanted to read the next book in this series as soon as I got it to my house. Because I was so excited to see what else would happen because this book has a world that can be so good to build off of.

In total this book was an amazing book to read and easy to follow and gave me a good understanding of this new magical world of Fablehaven and will let me read more of the series which I cannot wait to read. I would how ever suggest not power-reading the last 150 pages so you can start book 2 without being burnt out.
