Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders by Brandon Mull (5/5)

It’s not often that a book draws me in straight from the beginning. In fact I have a hard time finding books that interest me. Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders was a page turner that left me on the edge of my seat. This book written by Brandon Mull is the first book of a five book series. It is an action novel that never left me bored while reading. Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders leads you into the fascinating story of Cole Randolf.

Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders is a book where a young middle school boy (Cole Randolf) is just trying to go to a haunted house with his friends on Halloween. Suddenly they get taken away by these men into a mysterious land that people call “the Outskirts.” The Outskirts isn’t a place on the Earth all of us humans live in. It’s a place of imagination and dreaming, yet it is reality at the same time. He lives there as a slave and works with a girl he meets named Mira to try and escape and rescue his friends in this world of life and death.

After reading into Cole's adventure, you are left wishing that the story just kept going. This novel is jam-packed with life or death situations, friendships, plot twists, and more that draws you in and keeps you engaged for the entire length of the book. I think Brandon Mull is really trying to show the lengths your imagination can take you into the world of fantasy. Brandon Mull is an author who specializes in writing fantasy books for children and teens. He wrote another book series (Fablehaven) which has an entirely different storyline, yet it gives off the same energy and keeps you just as entertained as Five Kingdoms. It is definitely safe to say that Brandon Mull is an expert on writing intriguing stories for all ages to enjoy.

From trick-or-treating with your friends to fighting off giant enemies and foes in a fantasy land, Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders is definitely one of my top book recommendations. I have always struggled with finding a book that actually keeps me interested to continue reading it and not quit five pages in. Although Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders never failed to captivate me in the plot and storyline. Five Kingdoms: Sky Raiders, a book that deserves your read.
